Teradata's ESG Commitment

At Teradata, we are committed to operating a business that takes a responsible view of our impact on society and the planet. Integrating corporate citizenship into every facet of our company’s functioning has been a central element of how we create value. This approach is anchored in our core principles and intrinsically tied to our purpose of transforming businesses and lives through the power of data.

Accordingly, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations guide us in our responsibility to incrementally advance ESG efforts and show progress, including achieving our future ambition of net-zero carbon emissions.

We took several actions last year—as summarized in our ESG report—to demonstrate our commitment to environmental sustainability; being a positive force in the communities in which our employees work and live; and operating ethically throughout all facets of our business. To highlight a few:

Created a Corporate Citizenship Council

We formalized our ESG program with the creation of a Corporate Citizenship Council comprised of senior leaders from functions across the company. As the Chief Legal Officer and Chief Financial Officer, we serve together as executive sponsors and oversee the operation of the council. This cross-functional group collaborates to identify, coordinate, measure, and advance our ESG priorities and objectives. We engage key stakeholders—including employees, investors, analysts, suppliers, customers, and industry experts—who help inform how we conduct our business, soliciting feedback and creating channels for dialogue. Our executive leadership team functions as the steering committee for our ESG strategies and initiatives, and reviews progress quarterly.

Exceeded Our Climate Action Goal

We set a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target to reduce absolute (Scope 1 and 2) GHG emissions by 37% by 2033 from our 2018 baseline. With closure of our offices during the pandemic, the company’s transition to a fully flexible work environment, ongoing data center consolidation, and additional energy strategies taken together, we were able to reduce Teradata’s absolute GHG emissions by 43%, exceeding the goal by 8% and 12 years ahead of schedule. We also announced a net-zero emissions ambition, which we are developing science-and data-based plans and a timeline to achieve.

Introduced “Together Transforms Us” Culture Initiative

As the world adapts to significant change in how people live and work, we needed to transform our culture at Teradata to support our people in evolving their ways of thinking, assessing, perceiving, and reacting to new challenges—all while placing well-being and DEI principles at the forefront. We conducted a companywide Transformation Readiness Pulse Survey, following which we hosted Culture Transformation Learning Labs to inspire employees to co-create our culture. Based on extensive employee input, we introduced new opportunities to promote work/life balance and positive well-being practices, including Birthday Day Off, Wellness Days, Official “No Meetings” periods, and Summer Fridays.

Teradata is regularly recognized for our efforts in driving sustainability and demonstrating ethical behavior and actively supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion. While recognition is always wonderful to receive, it is not what drives us. Our abiding philosophy is that ESG is a team effort. And we continue to nurture a culture and work environment where everyone can thrive, operate ethically in all business dealings, and create meaningful change in the communities where we live and work. We are also uniquely positioned to have a broader positive impact through the power of data by leveraging our game-changing products to help our customers’ sustainability journeys. Teradata’s commitment to people, our planet, and our communities is outlined in our ESG report.
